Sodium gluconate is the sodium salt of gluconic acid. It is white or pale yellow crystalline body
or powder, quite easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohols and insoluble in ethers.
It has good sequestering properties and stable under extreme conditions of temperature(<90o)
& alkalinity. Sodium gluconate is a set retarding and water-reducing agent for cement-based
mixtures. It also acts as an anionic surfactant of high molecular weight polymers.
